In Case of An Emergency

Because of last week's  extensive flooding in some areas of Metro Manila, many families have been forced to evacuate their homes for days.  Now that a new typhoon (Helen) has entered the Philippine area of responsibility, I think it's about time to be prepared. It's always better to be ready than to be caught off guard.

Residents ride on a make shift raft during a heavy downpour.

I came across this 72-hour Disaster Kit from Natalie. So far, this is the best 72-hour kit I have ever seen.

Each bag contains the following:
  • Food and Water good for three (3) days (When preparing for an emergency, it is recommended that you put together a kit of food to last you 72 hours)
  • Clothes
  • Toiletries
  • Game/Book (to keep your mind off on the emergency situation)
  • First Aid Kit / Medications
  • Flashlight / Extra Batteries
  • Blanket
  • Cash
  • and many other items

It is best to update these kits on a yearly basis depending on the changing needs and requirements of each family member. Although I am hoping that a real emergency won't happen. =) It is also a good idea to compile copies of important documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificate, insurance certificates, important phone numbers, IDs, immunization records, recent photos of each family member and passports in a clear book or binder. Be sure that this information is secured so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

Anyway, while we're on the subject of organizing there are groups that are still accepting donations for the victims of the recent flooding here in Manila. My husband and I donated some of our clothes that we no longer use. Donating clean and reusable stuff is one of the best ways to de-clutter and organize your space. Plus, you've also helped a person or a family in need. It's like hitting two birds with one stone. It feels good too!

With Typhoon Helen on the way, I am hoping and praying for every family's safety and well-being. Take Care!
