Global Mala Project 2012

I'm gushing like a schoolgirl because this will be my first time to participate in a yoga community event scheduled on the 1st of September 2012 here in Manila. Let me introduce the Global Mala Project 2012. Yay!

As an eco-friendly individual, I try to minimize my carbon footprint in my own little ways. By taking part in this event, I am able to support the global drive in helping preserve the environment. =)

The Global Mala Project Worldwide was created by Shiva Rea and the Manila chapter is produced and led by Teresa Herrera. It's mission is to raise awareness and funds for some of the most important issues of our planet: Global Warming and Marine Conservation.

The purpose of the Global Mala Yoga for Peace is to unite the global yoga community from every continent, school or approach to form a "mala around the earth".

A mala (garland) is a set of beads commonly used by Hindus and Buddhists, usually made from 108 beads, though other numbers, usually divisible by 9, are also used. Malas are used for keeping count while reciting, chanting, or mentally repeating a mantra or the name or names of a deity. This practice is known in Sanskrit as japa.

The Global Mala events will be happening simultaneously in cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, London, Tokyo and a lot more. It is the largest unified worldwide yoga event dedicated to positive change in the history of the planet.

In line with Fall Equinox and the United Nations' International Day of Peace. The funds that will be raised from the Manila celebration will go to:
